Inocente Re-visited & Thriving One Year Later

Inocente DVD

When arrived home yesterday, I was super, super happy to see a mailer from Shine Global awaiting me!  Inside: My Kickstarter reward, a DVD of this year’s Academy Award Winning Documentary Short, INOCENTE. Yes!!

Last summer I was one of the 294 backers that helped continue funding for distributing & promoting this amazing film through Shine Global’s Kickstarter campaign.  This successful crowdfunding effort made internet history as the first time a film featured on Kickstarter ended up winning an Oscar!

It was also a year ago yesterday that I first saw this documentary premier at the Cleveland International Film Festival. I was so moved by Inocente’s story of transformation and resiliency to cope with her family’s chronic homelessness, abuse, and uncertainty through the refuge she received at a A Reason to Survive (ARTS) and in her painting.  Now, 12 months later, it is great to see all this thriving success, which will in turn keep awareness, outreach, hope, and inspiration from Inocente’s story growing…

I intend to put my Kickstarter reward to very good use to share Inocente’s story, the power of art, and the many struggles she has overcome with the youth and families I work with as an art therapist in a shelter setting.

If you’d like to see the film, it is also available now on iTunes and continues to be widely screened across the US and internationally.  You can also follow Inocente’s painting and happenings via her page on Facebook, and purchase her art here.

Continued best wishes to Inocente, ARTS, Fine Films, and Shine Global!
