August 1, 2014

In July, I organized a Paper Stash Swap for my 6 Degrees of Creativity online workshop community, where interested members signed up to exchange artsy paper stuff and goodies with another participant:

Let’s Swap Some Paper!

Below is some the creative goodness I put together for the couple of fun  stashes I mailed to Nancy and Jessica.  These packages included a variety of scrapbooking paper, tags, paper bag books, scrap collage bits & pieces, bingo cards, book catalog file cards and more:

Preparing Creative Goodness for Paper Stash Mailing

Here’s a collection of awesome paper stashes I received from Jessica, Roseann, and Nancy (thank you!) which included lots of colorful printed paper, book & dictionary pages, maps, tags, tickets, and so, so much more:

Paper Stash Treasure

The second part of this Paper Stash Swap is this month’s Show & Tell where we can share what we’ve created with some of the gifts & treasures we’ve received.  I’ve used a lot of the stash stuff in my 3×5 365 cards during the past month. It was also really easy to take the stashes (contained in a large mailing envelope or plastic bag) on the go with me to create with.  I really thought the patterns, textures, & colors of the stashes I was generously gifted with brought a new excitement and an inviting warmth to my 3×5 art. It was a pleasure to begin incorporating these positive elements into my creative practice and feel these meaningful additions come to life (each day and each week).

I look forward to seeing other Show & Tells from this exchange on the 6 Degrees of Creativity site and how what was received was used or what it inspired. 🙂

Creative Pay It Forward’s Paper Stash Surprise

February 3, 2013

CreativePayItForward

I responded to Lani‘s Creative Pay It Forward request last month and as part of this fun mail art activity, I just received an inspiring paper stash surprise from her with these instructions on the package:

1. Spill Contents

2. Play with Glue and Scissors

3. Have Fun!

I did very well at accomplishing directive #1 which also already started to put accomplishing directive #3 in motion.  I sat with much wonder and excitement as I started to look through the spilled contents.  Some of what was included:  images of natural and neon light, calm landscape scenery, earthy & sacred objects,  modern & retro-esque print sheets, and… lots of  butterflies…which made me smile inside and out (lots!) when thinking about the future idea of using them in my collage work.

Little Butterfly

The contents of this Creative Pay It Forward delivery are all wonderful ingredients for more 2013 revo’lution making!  Many, many thanks Lani… So many possibilities here!

On to directive #2 and more of #3:  Time to play with scissors and glue!  I also need to start working on my second Create It Forward goodie to send out this month to someone on my list.

Gluebookers Unite: Let the Paper Stash Swapping Begin!

August 4, 2012

The Paper Stash Swap for my e-workshop Creative Goodness with Gluebooks as part of 6 Degrees of Creativity 2 just officially started. Let the paper swapping fun begin across the US, to Canada, Australia, Brazil, England, and Italy!

This paper stash swap will give each of the individuals who signed up a quart/liter sized Ziploc bag full of creative goodness to use in their gluebooking throughout the rest of the workshop or for other creative means.  I can’t wait to hear and see more about what people swap, send, and receive!

In preparation for this exchange, I’ve started on a scavenger hunt in my art-making space to put together lots of creative goodness for Bailey Earith, of Bailey Fiber Arts Studio, who I will be mailing a paper stash to soon.  I have lots of different types of textured and colored paper, as well as lots of magazine photo collage images, postcards, and other ephemera that I need to sort through for this swap!

A great resource I’ve been recommending to participants in this workshop is Cindy Shepard’s book Stash and Smash to help inspire and cultivate stuff for our gluebooking that comes from our everyday surroundings, daily activities, and current happenings to visually document our day, week, month, occasion or to explore a special theme.  I think it’s a great book with lots and lots of paper stash ideas!

My intention with the stash I receive from this swap is to incorporate this fresh new creative goodness into a gluebook I am going to make about 6 Degrees of Creativity 2. I can’t wait to get started!

Getting Ready: Gluebooking, Paper Swapping, Page Exchanging & More

May 26, 2012

I just finished up my video tutorials and PDF download  for my 6 Degrees of Creativity 2 workshop Creative Goodness with Gluebooks.  It was a lot of fun to put all the content together and get it ready for its July 1st debut.   This online workshop not only includes an introduction to making gluebooks &  gluebook prompts to work on, but also an August paper stash swap and November gluebook page exchange with other workshop participants.

Gluebooking Fun Begins in July!

In preparation for this workshop I’ve been collecting even more paper stuff to use as a way of documenting my activities, interests, plans, and inspirations through the concept of gluebooking.  I’ve been a lot more mindful of the paper around me (even the most mundane and ordinary scraps, notes, & clippings) and how I can transform these into sharing an experience, memory, feeling,or something special I want to remember through gluebooking.

One of the gluebook spreads I worked on yesterday included a lot of the findings I brought back home from my travels last week such as local maps, a farecard ticket, baggage tags, images from a visitor guide, handmade paper, and more.   It was a creative way for me to continue to process the experience, as well as create a meaningful representation through all the various things I saved.

Stash Swapping & Page Exchanging!

I am so looking forward to seeing what gluebooks & gluebook spreads are created by others involved in this workshop, as well as exchanging some gluebook pages and stuff from our paper stash!    Lots of creative goodness!

The creative goodness doesn’t stop with this workshop either: there are five additional workshops and instructors part of the 6 Degrees of Creativity 2 experience!    Yay!  Join us starting in July for our 6 month virtual art making adventure & creative community.   Registration is open until June 30, 2012.
