twentytwelve revo’lution book reflection

December 27, 2012

In these last few days of 2012, I’ve been thinking more about this past year’s ready for revo’lution book and the intentions I identified: Authenticity, Creativity, Attention, Sincerity, Re-Connection, Kindness, Perspective, and Joy. I re-read my posts archived for this year’s revo’lution and also spent some reflection with the art. Each intention still resonates with the strong connection and positive energy the pages inspired during their creation last December, manifested in my 2012 life, and the important gifts they each continue to provide.

2012 revo'lution pages

I hold such amazing appreciation for the places, people, moments, choices, and opportunities that nurtured these eight intentions throughout this year.

My process has come full circle:

Preparation:聽 [prep路a路ra路tion]
The action of making ready or being made ready for use.

Intention: [in路ten路tion]
A course of action that one intends to follow. An aim that guides action; an objective, purpose.

Creation: [cre路a路tion]
The action or process of bringing something into existence.

Transformation: [trans路for路ma路tion]
A marked or thorough change in form.

These intentions and the lighted path they have led me to has also created an important foundation of understanding for my next revo’lution dedicated to Stillness, Honor, Trust, Light, Simplicity, and Service in 2013.

Revolution Visual Journaling: Fiona Fitzpatrick

January 6, 2012

Since the launch of my ready to revolution eBook, I’ve been receiving some images and word on art journaling pages from individuals working on their 2012 Revolution!聽 This has been so very cool to receive and learn more about!

In this post I wanted to highlight Art Therapist Fiona Fitzpatrick who recently sent me some of her revolution art after checking out ready for revolution.聽 Fiona has been involved with art journaling for a few years now, which also includes teaching Visual Journaling: Where Images and Words Meetat Sydney University’s聽Centre for Continuing Education in Australia to introduce and explore its benefits. During our e-mail exchanges, Fiona expressed that she enjoys the process of combining images with writing in the format of a book and keeps various journals and altered books for different areas of her life, both personal and work related.聽 Great self-care and a nice way to maintain your personal creative practice with art-making!

Fiona chose to simplify her revolution making process and decided on three intentions to focus on for 2012:

Fiona's Intentions Book Cover

Fiona's Stillness Spread

Fiona's Trust Spread

Fiona's Yes Spread

Thanks to Fiona for her willingness to share her art journaling with the Creativity in Motion community!聽 I definitely agree with Fiona’s thoughts about this kind of art-making and sharing being a nice balance for the art therapist’s creative self-expression and to just have fun!

Recent resources I also wanted to share on the topic of art journaling and its benefits:

Ringing in the New Year with Revolution Art Making

December 31, 2011

All week I have been in denial that 2011’s 21 SECRETS is closing on December 31, 2011, but today that day is finally here.聽 I still can’t believe it.聽 I’ve sooo enjoyed being part of and teaching in this art journaling community organized by Connie Hozvicka of Dirty Footprints Studio…21 SECRETS has truly been a highlight of my 2011.聽 The creative connections, art journaling ideas, inspiration, and encouragement have been amazingly wonderful and I will really miss this community!

I will especially miss everyone who participated in my 21 SECRETS workshop ready for revolution.聽 If you haven’t already checked out this post from November, it features many of the revolution art journal pages and books created since 21 SECRETS opened in April.聽 So inspiring!聽 Definitely worth another mention (and watch)!

With 21 SECRETS coming to a close, I’ve invited ready for revolution participants to share their 2012 intentions or any of their revolution art in the works:

Janet's 2012 Revolution Intentions

I created this image on my computer to share my Revo’lution words for 2012.聽The background image is of a Pohutukawa tree flower bud.聽 Here in New Zealand we聽call them the NZ Christmas tree as they have bright red joyful flowers that are out at Christmas time. This bud is about to burst open and “OPEN” is a big word for me this year.聽聽To be authenticially聽OPEN to聽 vulnerability, love, joy,聽gentle kindness, compassion, gratitude, connection and belonging, so I can allow my resilient spirit to live whole-heartedly聽聽聽 ~Janet

Janette's 2012 Revolution-Page 1- Inspire

I have started my Revo-lution 2012 book, I’ve only done one page so far but I thought I would share it…The book is a 5″ by 5″ board book stripped back to the board and then gesso’d and I’ve used images that inspire me.聽 The couple on the left are my parents who have loved and inspired me all my life; the sunset at Castara bay in Sunny Tobago (one of my favourite places on earth); a bit of an old map of Ryde which has a fascinating history; Albert Einstein – who was a genius, deep thinker and often a little playful, I would have loved to have met him; Joan Miro is one of my favourite artists and so is Keith Haring.聽 The little image bottom right says Plant a Seed, because that’s what inspiration is – the potential for something great.聽 I’ve included ArchBishop Desmond Tutu because he is another highly intellegent man, deep thinker, has a heart the size of a planet and a ‘wicked’ laugh.聽 I would love to meet him. 聽~Janette聽

Lani's Revolution Page for Joy

I was also very excited to see Lani Gerity share her completed 2012 revolution book on her blog.聽 Check out Lani’s wonderful revolution book for twentytwelve and reflections on her intentions here.

And this great idea from Phoenix was posted yesterday:聽 I鈥檓 hoping to spend 12/31 contemplating and creating pages for my revolution journal for 2012. I ran out of time to make one during 21 Secrets, but my goal is to have photos of the pages on my phone or Ipod so I can look at them regularly and remember my priorities for the year.聽 Honestly, thank you so, so much for your class. I鈥檝e always been big on resolutions that vanish within a day or so of real life. I hadn鈥檛 realised just how exhausting it all was until I sat and watched your workshop and something inside me seemed to just relax at the idea of visual reminders of the direction I鈥檓 heading (not the dress size I鈥檓 wanting!!!)

I looooove all these good vibes for ringing in the New Year with revolution art making….聽 and here’s some more good stuff for art journaling in 2012:聽 A new 21 SECRETS line up has been announced for 2012 and goes on sale January 2. 聽 Yay!

Happy 2012!

In the Making: My Best Revolution Yet

December 23, 2011

I started working on my 2012 revolution book last night to hold the intentions authenticity, attention, creativity, joy, kindness, perspective, re-connection, and sincerity. This will be my fourth revolution book and engaging in this year-end tradition to create & invite chosen intentions into my life throughout the upcoming new year.

As I worked on each page, the feeling I had about this process and my intentions for 2012 was very powerful and full of so many good vibes. Beginning my work on this book was humbling and provided an emotional connection never experienced before in my past revolution making.

My plan is to still have my new revolution book finished in the next week and ready to go for 2012… I am looking forward to more work on each of my pages and continued connection with my 2012 intentions…my best revolution yet…

my 2011 revo’lution reflection!

December 16, 2011

This week I have started to take an end of the year look at my 2011 revo’lution. 聽For聽the last few years I have been practicing a year end tradition of creating my 鈥渞evo鈥檒ution鈥, a process where I identify intentions that I want to focus more on and strengthen throughout the upcoming year. I then create images in response to these concepts and make an annual revo鈥檒ution book as a visual reminder, as well as take a look back at the end of the year.

This year鈥檚 intentions were聽Truth, Choice, Nurture, Imagine, Inspire, Change, Freedom, and Passion:

My revo’lution intentions throughout 2011 invited lots of activity that I am excited to reflect on! 聽This year’s revo’lution helped me with discovering where to spend worthwhile energy, work on maintaining balance, and how to create meaningful use of my time. 聽Being mindful throughout this year to engage in activities that empowered me to spend thoughtful time and focus related to art-making, community organizing, strengthening my gratitude practice and embracing activities that nurtured my relationships, creativity and work thrive with good vibes were all very important. 聽This year’s revo’lution also helped me honor the parts of myself that enjoys having fun, independence, and remembering to value my individuality, ideas, and motivation without the need to seek permission.

I am grateful for inspiring friends, colleagues, kind creative souls, new inspirations, ideas, travels, unconditional support, and loads of positive energy that helped contribute to making this year’s revo’lution rewarding and fullfilling! 聽A slideshow of faces and places highlighting some of my 2011 revo’lution fun can be seen here.

In the works: Creating my 2012’s revolution book with the intentions Sincerity, Re-Connection, Authenticity, Creativity, Perspective, Kindness, Attention, and Joy. 聽Look for the reveal of this coming soon!

More Handmade Revolution Making Meets Art Journaling [VIDEO]

November 13, 2011

Ready for Revolution Book Cover by Eva Miller

To celebrate and honor all the awesome revolution making happening in my workshop ready for revolution, I put together a short video montage dedicated to the fabulous and inspiring art journaling that has been created throughout the last 8 months as part of Dirty Footprints Studio’s art journaling playground 21 SECRETS.

Revolution (Art) Making : Live Life Fearlessly

September 27, 2011

I love, love, love this art journal page posted a few days ago in my ready for revolution class by Janette Gregson in the UK who just started her revolution book making experience in 21 SECRETS.聽 I love the image of the woman on the tightrope, included Alan Alda quote, and overall message! 聽Thanks to Janette for sharing this and letting me re-post here on Creativity in Motion… Check out Janette’s art journaling blog聽to view some more of her work and read about her experiences. 聽Nice!

Throughout the last six months in ready for revolution, I am always excited to see what each individual creates, their intention, how this is expressed visually, and聽reflections posted within our group.聽 As I’ve posted here before, it’s awesome to see the revolution pages and the entire books (wow!) being created and shared. 聽After the last few years of annually creating my own revolution book and sharing it with others sorta on my own through this blog, social media, and video, 聽it’s so powerful to see the hopeful, empowering, and inspiring revolutions shared by others and this group of support, encouragement, and community.

Here’s to much more revolution (art) making!!聽 Yay!
